How to assess your cardiovascular risk

Cardiovascular disease is the main killer threatening our people in recent years, and cardiovascular disease has the characteristics of sudden onset, rapid progress and high mortality. How to assess your cardiovascular risk

1. Main risk factors:

  • Age (unchangeable): male > 45 years old, female > 55 years old
  • Family history (unchangeable): family history of early onset cardiovascular disease (male <55 years old, female <65 years old)
  • Gender: male (unchangeable)
  • High blood pressure: (controllable) ≤ 140/90mmHg
  • Smoking: (controllable) quit smoking
  • Serum total cholesterol increased: (controllable) low-fat diet, lipid-lowering drug application
  • Serum low-density lipoprotein increased: (controllable) low-fat diet, lipid-lowering drug application
  • Serum high-density lipoprotein decreased <1.0mmol / L: (to a certain extent controllable) increased exercise, a small amount of alcohol, statins, lipid-lowering drugs, etc.
  • Diabetes: (controllable) diabetes diet, hypoglycemic drugs and/or insulin use

2. Potential risk factors:

  • Overweight / obesity: BMI (body mass index) normal range 18.5 ~ 23.9, overweight 24.0 ~ 27.9, obesity ≥ 28.0 BMI = weight (kg) / height (cm) 2
  • Serum triglyceride elevation: (controllable) limit alcohol, control blood sugar, staple food, etc.
  • Serum apolipoprotein B is elevated: (controllable) exercise, low-fat diet, lipid-lowering drugs, etc.
  • Lmpaired sugar regulation: (controllable) control diet, moderate exercise
  • Serum hypercoagulable state (controllable) to find the primary disease, treatment of primary disease

3. Other risk factors:

  • Low education level: poor health awareness and poor self-control ability
  • Occupational types and shifts: fast pace, high pressure, often staying up late, the cause of sudden death in young people

  • Unhealthy diet: high-salt, high-fat, high-protein diet, regular consumption of fried barbecue and other processing methods, less fresh vegetables and fruits, less water, alcohol, etc.
  • Lack of exercise
  • Excessive drinking: The medical profession defines alcoholism as: drinking 5 bottles or more than 5 bottles at a time, or the alcohol content in the blood reaches or exceeds 0.08g/dL.
  • Mental stress: long-term mental stress
